Abstract : Wikis are effective tools to develop collaborative projects because of their openness, participating and flexible nature. Using them allows the creation of content in horizontal plataforms that give prominence to the users for create, share and participate in knowledge management and this, brings new opportunities to innovate in formal and informal learning environments.

This paper presents a project on the use of Wikis in virtual communities as a support for knowledge management in social economy. It is developed as a case study of the process of building wikis with Social Economy researchers linked to a virtual community at the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia as a means to facilitate interaction and exchange of knowledge and empowerment of all its members, in order to increase quality, relevance and visibility.

The developing study, includes several stages: a theoretical approach on how organizations, universities and the Social Economy as a whole are facing change and innovation using web 2.0 tools; the description of the uses and attitudes of researchers facing wikis; the monitoring of the knowledge management processes that are generated through the collaborative and communicative experience building and using wikis, and finally, the conceptual validation of the process and the design of a model to use wikis in knowledge management processes applicable to multiple scenarios.
